Abstract

Higher education is of utmost importance in the socio-economic advancement of a country, as it significantly influences the formation of future leaders, researchers, and professionals. In the Pakistani context, the higher education system has recently experienced substantial growth and expansion. Nevertheless, the sector encounters various obstacles that impede its advancement and capacity to compete internationally. Pakistan's comprehensive higher education system is characterized by a wide array of universities, encompassing both public and private institutions. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) serves as the principal governing entity tasked with regulating, supervising, and coordinating higher education within the nation. The primary objective of this research article is to examine the various obstacles encountered by the higher education sector in Pakistan and ascertain potential avenues for enhancement within the framework of the global environment. The results underscore the significance of tackling these obstacles in order to fully leverage the potential of higher education for the advancement of a nation and its global competitiveness.
